Even though iPhone X is a quite new device, batteries become obsolete quite fast, therefore this manual for its replacement can prove to be more than useful very soon.

To avoid damaging the display cables, this manual instructs you to remove the display part from the device. However, if you are willing to risk this, you may skip this part and move directly to the battery replacement part. We will also unwind the Taptic Engine and speakers for easier handling.

Opening the iPhone X will compromise its waterproof seals. If you do not replace them, the device will be functional, but no longer waterproof.

For optimal performance after replacing the battery, calibrate the new battery: discharge it under 10% and then recharge without interrupting to 100%.

Replacement parts for iPhone X can be found on our e-shop in the replacement parts section. If you are interested in a service task for your iPhone X, visit one of our branches and we will arrange a same-day repair.

Step 1
Opening the device 1

  • insert a pick into the gap

The waterproof adhesive, which secures the display, is very strong and therefore creating this gap requires a great amount of strength. If necessary, move the display up and down to loosen it and create enough space for the spudger.

  • gently slide the pick to the left along the bottom edge of the iPhone
  • gently tilt the pick, to enlarge the gap

Step 2
Opening the device 2

  • if you display is badly damages and cracked, before you begin, cover it with a transparent adhesive tape
  • insert the pick into the gap
  • the waterproof adhesive, which secures the display, is very strong and therefore creating this gap requires a great amount of strength

If necessary, move the display up and down to loosen it and create enough space for the spudger.

  • gently slide the pick to the left along the bottom edge of the iPhone
  • gently tilt the pick, to enlarge the gap
  • slide the pick to the left side of the iPhone, moving up and down all the way to the upper edge.

Do not move it on to the upper edge yet.

  • move to the right side of the device and using the same movement as until now, separate the display from the cover
  • do not insert the pick way too deep inside, as this could damage the display cables on this side of the device
  • insert it in only into a maximum of the width of the frame
  • move the pick on the upper side of the display, to break through the remaining adhesive
  • even in this place, do not insert the pick deeper inside than to the edge of the display, as you could damage the upper sensors
  • the upper side may be difficult to separate. In case of need, separate the display from the adhesive by a gentle movement, until it loosens

Step 3
Opening the device and disconnecting the battery connector

  • open the iPhone by folding the display to the right, as when you open a book
  • do not try to completely separate the display assembly yet, as it is still attached with fragile cables
  • remove the four Y000 screws, which secure the bottom connector bracket
    • three 1,2 mm screws
    • one 2,4 mm screw
  • make sure that you return the screws to their original place to avoid damaging the device
  • remove the bottom connector bracket
  • use the tip of the spudger or fingernail to disconnect the battery connector from the motherboard

Try not to damage the black silicone which surrounds this and other connectors. This silicone provides extra protection against water.

  • gently flip the connector away from the motherboard and other connectors to avoid their contact and possible cut-off

  • gently bend the connector away from the motherboard and other connectors, to avoid it from coming into contact with them and causing a short circuit

  • the flex cable is lightly adhered to its place
  • gently lift the flex cable, until the adhesive peels off
  • separate the display assembly from the rare cover

Step 9
Removing battery 1

  • iPhone X battery is secured to its place by 4 double-side adhesive tapes – one located on the top of the battery and three on the bottom
  • each of the adhesive tapes has a black pull-tab at the end, adhered to the top of the battery, so you can recognize it easily
  • pell off the end of the first adhesive tape, which is located at the bottom left side of the battery
  • use flat tweezers or fingernails, to avoid damaging the battery
  • repeat the same for all the endings of the remaining adhesive tapes located at the bottom side of the battery
  • do not damage the speaker cable connector, which is located under the middle adhesive tape

Step 10
Removing battery 2

  • pull the first adhesive tape located on the bottom left edge of the battery, by using your fingers, and pull it out from under the battery downwards towards the bottom of the iPhone
  • pull slowly and consistently, until the adhesive tape is completely removed from under the battery. Pull out in a maximum 60° angle, or less
  • the adhesive tapes have a tendency to return back to its original length. If it slips out of your fingers, just grab it and continue pulling
  • repeat the process with the adhesive tape located on the right of the device, leave the middle adhesive tape for last
  • when pulling out the last adhesive tape be careful, not to stick it on the flex cable
  • repeat the same with the last tape on top of the battery
  • this tape is located very close to the Apple Face ID hardware. If it gets damaged, the device can only be repaired by Apple, therefore advance carefully
  • when pulling out this tape, gently hold down the battery in place, so it does not pop out of the device
  • if you managed to remove all the adhesive tapes, skip to the next step
